Activities

Each day allows for relaxing and meditative time for you to choose how to spend. Greet the day with coffee and reflection on the patio, schedule an in-room afternoon massage – one is included with your registration. Rest and relax, journal and meditate. Each afternoon/evening we will host a fly fishing seminar to discuss your questions, instruct on some basics such as knot tying, rigging, entomology, fly selection, and more!

Colorado Cuisine

Get ready for local flavor! Each meal during the retreat is planned with your enjoyment in mind; welcome reception hors d’oeuvres, morning breakfast buffet, stream-side hot-cooked lunches, and Colorado cuisine style dinners. Relax nightly on the lodge’s scenic patio. Share the day’s adventures with friends over wine and hors d’oeuvres, wood burning fires and a panoramic sunset. A special catered Celebration dinner will be held off-site Saturday evening at the Ranch. (Any food sensitivities/allergies will be accommodated.)

Celebrate

You’ll visit a 110-acre private historic ranch surrounded by national forest. Enjoy a soak in the Japanese-style hot tub (robes and towels provided), an outdoor massage, yoga session on the lawn, explore the ranch, or go for a hike! On the last night we’ll party at the ranch with a special Celebration dinner. Socialize over wine and hors d’oeuvres. Reflect on the weekend, share memories with new friends about the fish you caught and the ones that got away!

Location

Your base camp will be in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains at Mountain River Lodge, Lake George, Colorado. The lodge is located 50 miles west of Colorado Springs Airport and 122 miles south of the Denver International Airport.

Transportation

We will transport you to streams for fly fishing at Rainbow Falls Mountain Trout and to off-site activities at the Wild Canyon Ranch. We can provide transportation from Denver International Airport and Colorado Springs Airport for an additional fee.

Gear

All gear and fishing equipment is included. Bring clothing and outer layers for a variety of possible weather scenarios such as sun and rain as weather changes quickly in Colorado. Be sure to bring a brimmed hat such as a ball-cap, and polarized sunglasses for our fishing time. The days should be very warm and the nights cool off quite a bit so make sure to bring your favorite cozy sweater!

“These Boots Are Made for Wading” is a Women-Only, fun, interactive immersion into the sport of fly fishing for every level – from the total beginner through the most experienced angler. Partnering with the Number One name in the sport, Orvis, you’ll begin with a welcome reception where we describe all that’s available to do. Learn the art of fly casting from an expert, then put your skills to the test on our five miles of private waters along the Tarryall River with one guide for every two participants. Women’s Fly Fishing Clinic hosted by Sarah Barclay The class covers everything you will need to be self-sufficient on the stream including:
  • Fly casting techniques
  • Essential knots for fly fishing
  • How to choose gear and tackle
  • Stream entomology
  • Proper fly selection for the seasons
  • How to read water and currents
  • Wading safety
  • How to play, land, and safely release fish
Cost: $129 per angler Includes one weekday evening class from 6-9pm and one full day on the river [typically Saturday] – meet at shop about 7am, fish until 3-4pm. Limited to 6 anglers per class.   2018 Women’s Fly Fishing Clinic Class Schedule: May 17 classroom – May 19 river day June 21 classroom – June 23 river day July 12 classroom – July 14 river day August 16 classroom – August 18 river day   All of the necessary gear needed to participate in this class is provided for student anglers. Sign Up The next step after completing the Fly Fishing 101 class is to get out on the water for a 201 class. In this local outing, we will review casting and rigging, and show you more tricks for getting the fly where you want it and bringing it to life in the water. For many students, this is the first fish they will catch on the fly! We will provide rods and terminal tackle, although we recommend you bring your own to become more comfortable fishing your personal gear! We also recommend bringing your own tippet, forceps and nippers (all included in our fully-loaded lanyard and sling pack!) so you can tie your own knots and release your own fish! We will provide plenty of drinks and a light lunch afterwards. All gear is provided. Wear weather appropriate clothing (rain or sun gear), comfortable shoes that can get muddy, a hat and sunglasses. We recommend students wear polarized sunglasses – they’re better for your eyes, and will cut the glare off the water to allow you to see the fish! Class will be held at Lake Lehow in Littleton, Colorado.

Women’s Fly Fishing 101 – Denver, CO

Sign Up In fly-fishing 101, Orvis Instructors will teach you the basics of fly-fishing: casting, rigging, and fly selection, in just two hours! You’ll even get to practice landing a fish! We provide all the gear along with a light brunch, coffee and mimosas. As a thank-you for taking the class, you will receive a set of exclusive coupons that will help outfit you with gear and clothing; allowing you to hit the water as easily and comfortably as possible! Join us at your local store to see how simple, fun and accessible fly fishing really is! All fishing gear will be provided, along with a light brunch and plenty of water. You will be outside for the first hour of the class, so dress appropriately: sun or rain gear, comfortable clothes and shoes, a hat, and sunglasses.
