Linda Leary

FEATURED ANGLER
I grew up in Maine and moved to Alaska right out of college. I live in Eagle River with my husband, Mike.
How long have you been fly fishing?
I started fly fishing with my dad when I was about 10 years old. I grew up in Stockholm, Maine, and we spent our summers living at Madawaska Lake. We would venture across the lake each evening after supper to Cary Brook to catch brook trout. We used hopper patterns, Grey Ghosts, Mickey Finns, and Green Drakes. We also fished several local streams and lakes for brook trout and landlocked salmon.
Favorite fly-fishing partner
Of course, my dad and my husband are two of my favorites. I have to say that I get real joy out of watching my gal pals catch fish, especially for the first time, and celebrate their new-found love for fishing!
Favorite water to fish
Ugashik Narrows in Western Alaska for arctic char, it is so beautiful and wild.
Favorite species to fish for
Freshwater: Arctic char and rainbow trout; Saltwater: roosterfish from the beach and bonefish
